About the event
In the "Αι/ther/ας" workshop we will experiment with the (re)discovery and expression of our creativity through the techniques of Art Therapy and Expressive Movement. Our companion on this journey will be the Theremin (Greek: αιθερόφωνο / ætheróphonο) an electronic musical instrument that is played "in the air" without being touched by the musician.
We will transform sound and music into movement, into colors and forms.
Our purpose is to be inspired through experimentation and make a journey of exploration of ourselves and of our interaction with the world around us, using corporal expression and visual creation as a means to explore and expand our self-awareness.
Before we develop the ability to speak, our memories and feelings are recorded in our memory sensorially, through images, touch and smell. The mind during our lifetime cannot handle all the information it receives, so it compresses it into the unconscious in the form of images, dreams and symbols.
Art Therapy uses visual arts' techniques (eg painting, sculpture) to help us explore the conscious and unconscious aspects of ourselves. Because expression through art is not a linear process and does not have to follow the rules of language, it can express many aspects of our Ego, consciously or not, in the form of images and symbols.
Through creativity, that is inherent in all individuals, Art Therapy promotes personal growth, self-expression and emotional recovery.
The Rio Abierto method was created in 1966 by Argentine psychologist Maria Adela Palcos as a set of mind-body techniques, drawing elements from the fields of Dance, Art and Psychology. It quickly spread to many countries in Latin America and Europe with successful applications in education, mental health, arts and communication.
It is based on the principle of movement and pulsation as the basic properties of every living organism, on the unity of human existence with the surrounding world and on the values of freedom and trust in the possibilities of human nature.
Through the combination of expressive movement, creative dance, music, sound, visual arts, and other tools such as dramatization, play, body alignment, massage, relaxation, self-observation, sharing and the transformative power of the group, the Río Abierto Method aims to explore emotions and create a bridge of communication with our inner self and the world around us, with the ultimate goal of empowering self-awareness and improving physical, mental and emotional health.
